10 Years of Bytecode-Viewer

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of BCV. I wrote a little bit about it on my website - 10 Years of Bytecode-Viewer

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to BCV, either by submitting code, or just by using the tool and letting us know how it can be improved.

As a side note: BCV 3.0.0 is around the corner - you can preview the developer snapshots on the GitHub directly.

Would be better hexadecimal viewer/editor useful?

Hi,
while I'm not very familiar with this tool and used other tools for decompilation before, I would like to ask, if better hexadecimal viewer would be a useful change.

As I'm working on some free hexadecimal editor https://bined.exbin.org, so the question is if I should try to incorporate it?

As I see it either:

Current hexadecimal viewer is sufficient and no better hexadecimal viewing capability is is needed
Working directly with binary data is just not primary task of the tool, so maybe plugin could be implemented, but that's it
Current viewer could be replaced, maybe as an PR

Saving as Jar dont compile the Code

Hi,

I opend a Jar, made few changes and pressed on "Compile". The Compiler says that the compiling is done.

Then I pressed "Save as jar" and saved the file.

Now I opened the saved Jar into JD-GUI for checking the Class I've made the changes and as I see, no changes effort.

Any Ideas why my code changes are not saved / compiled into that new JAR?

Hi!

I am trying to figure out what a specific apk does and I've been commenting quite a lot but whenever I save the file and re-open it, my comments are gone.

Am I doing it wrong? Tried saving as runnable/ to zip/ to jar - no comments..

Where can i find the 'Editable' option like for the Krakatau bytecode viewer?
I like how the default one uses brackets but i cant find the editable option for it.

Hello, i've tried BCV 2.9.8 on the MacOS, i've found a lot bugs:
- The app doesn't respond when i try to save to zip, or if any of jre or python after installation doesn't connected (click on the OK button on alert, then it hangs, need to reboot app);
- After decompiling apk there is no option File -> Compile Smali;

Could you please add detailed manual, how i can re-assemble apk after editing decoded resources & smali classes with BCV?
(i did it with Apktool successfully)

Exposed Generator module in BytecodeViewer-preview

I've been working on an Xposed Generator feature in Bytecodeviewer. So far I have a full working prototype planning to be improved in the coming months, the features include:
-Extracts from the selected , decompiled class (jar) , its methods in the form of a list
-Ability to select one of the methods you want to 'Xposed'
-Generate a Xposed class based on the selected method

If you are familiar with Xposed framework, please let me know. Looking for feedback :

Hi all,

BCV looks pretty awesome, I am interested in reverse engineering APK's, I have downloaded version 2.98, registered BCV ini, and now I have the application open, however I can not load any files into the program, have tried drag and drop, have tried file/add, but nothing shows in the pane. What stupid miskate am i making?

I have tried several apk files without success.
