One community, two sites
This policy covers The Bytecode Club forum and wiki. They share an account system and community records. We use information to run these services, display contributions, maintain accounts, respond to requests, and protect the community.
We do not use advertising or analytics tracking services. Public page counters and operational security records are separate from advertising or visitor profiling.
Account information
Account records include your username, display name, sign-in information, group membership, and any email address you provide. We use these to identify your account, manage access, and handle account-related requests. Your email and sign-in information are not part of your public profile.
Your username identifies your account and its @mention link. Your display name can change. Records carried over from the older sites may include information previously supplied there.
What other people can see
Forum posts, published wiki articles, public profile details, and public activity can be read by visitors. Search engines, feed readers, and other people may copy or index public content. Do not include information you want to keep private.
Mentioning a member links to their profile and can create a notification pointing to the post or page. Removing content here does not automatically remove copies held by other websites, search engines, or readers.
Messages and saved history
Private messages are separate from public discussions. They are available to their participants and authorized administrators who need access to manage the service or handle a report. When new messaging is enabled, members can contact administrators. Switching it off does not delete earlier conversations.
Wiki revisions and removed pages are kept so authorized Wiki Authors and administrators can review and undo changes. Revision history is private, even when all logged-in members are allowed to edit. Removing a page from public view does not erase its revision history. Privacy requests can address saved records as well as public content.
Cookies and browser storage
Sign-in cookies maintain your session. Browser storage also remembers preferences such as the light or dark theme, recent searches, and unfinished wiki drafts. We do not set advertising or analytics cookies.
You can clear cookies and website storage in your browser. This may sign you out, reset preferences, or remove drafts saved only on that device.
Security records and page counters
The server and services delivering the site can receive technical request information, including IP addresses, requested URLs, browser information, and timestamps. These records help deliver pages, investigate errors, prevent abuse, and protect accounts.
Public statistics include forum and wiki page views and combined historical totals. A page view is not a unique person, and these totals should not be interpreted as an audience count.
Services and external links
Hosting and delivery providers process information needed to operate the site. Cloudflare provides delivery and security services for the public sites. When a Gravatar image is displayed, your browser contacts Automattic's Gravatar service, which receives the image request and associated technical information.
Linked images are loaded from their external hosts. Playing an embedded video connects to its provider, such as YouTube, which can receive request information and apply its own cookies or storage. External services have their own privacy practices. Information may also be disclosed when necessary to comply with applicable legal obligations or address abuse and security incidents. We do not sell personal information or share it for targeted advertising.

How long information stays
Retention depends on the record and its purpose. Account information supports your account; contributions and revisions preserve community discussions and the wiki; operational records support security and troubleshooting. Legal obligations and unresolved reports may also affect how long information is needed.
Public removal, account closure, and erasure of stored records are different actions. Tell us what you want removed or changed so we can assess the request, including any retained history and applicable legal requirements. We will explain restrictions that affect the outcome.
Your choices and requests
Use account settings to update available profile details. For access, correction, deletion, or a copy of your information, contact the email below. Depending on the law that applies, you may also have rights to restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent where processing relies on it, or complain to a data protection authority.
Include your username and enough detail to identify the request. We may ask for reasonable evidence that the account or information belongs to you. Never send your password. Parents or guardians with concerns about a child's information can use the same contact.
